Tavira Tower. Civil architecture with a classicist façade, the highest point in the city centre.
Casa de Mora. Typical mansion from the period of Isabella II. Both the façade and the interior reflect the atmosphere of the time.
El Rosario Church. From Cadiz’s late baroque period. Inside are sculptures of San Servando and San German, the city’s patron saints.
La Santa Cueva Oratory. Neoclassical in style. Highlights inside are Goya’s fresco paintings.
Saint Agustin Church. Late mannerist in style. Inside is the Crucificado de la Buena Muerte a depiction of the Crucifixion attributed to Alonso Cano.
Saint Jame's Church. Its interior is decorated with reredoses of immense artistic value.
Cathedral. Construction work began in 1722, not finishing until well into the 19th century, which explains the presence of various different architectural styles in the finished building, principally baroque and Neoclassicism. It houses sculptures by La Roldana, Martinez Montañes and Arce. The Cathedral Museum contains a number of works of art: carvings, paintings and liturgical pieces, notably the magnificent processional monstrances.
Casa de las Cadenas. Typical late 17th-century mansion. The most significant element of its architecture is its baroque façade, built in Genovese marble.
Town Hall. Built in Neoclassical-Isabelline style. Inside, the highlight is the Chapter House.
Church of the Holy Cross. Cadiz’s original cathedral, remains of the original Gothic design are still visible. Destroyed during pillaging by English troops in 1596.
Pópulo District. The layout of the streets is based on the typical mediaeval district of the 13th century, to which it dates back.
Royal Prison. Civil architecture in Neoclassical style, from the final third of the 18th century, when the city received a huge economic boost from its trade with America.

Description

The city of Cadiz, which practically accounts for the whole of the municipal area which could be described as half island, half peninsula, connected to the mainland by a slender, sandy strip.

Its situation is responsible for its obvious maritime tendencies, and it has been totally dedicated to seafaring pursuits since its foundation. The Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans and Arabs all passed through what is believed to be the western world's oldest city, and it was here that Spain's first democratic Constitution was drawn up.

Despite its essentially urban nature, it also boasts areas of natural interest, such as the beaches of La Cortadura and El Chato, as well as Santibañez Mud Flats, which are part of Cadiz Bay Natural Park.

The city, popularly known as the "Tacita de Plata" (Silver Cup), has an unmistakable marine flavour, and its people are famous for their good humour and hospitality, as witnessed by the famous carnival; it boasts monuments of great interest, such as the Cathedral, the city walls, Holy Cross Parish Church, the Genovese Park, Puerta de la Caleta, etc. All places of indubitable charm, to which we must add the city's cuisine and beaches, famous for their beauty, such as La Caleta, Santa Maria del Mar and La Victoria.
