HOSPITAL OF THE HONORADOS VIEJOS DEL SALVADOR The Hospital was founded in the 14the century for charitable works. The present building was designed by Andres de Vandelvira and built at the end of the 16th century.
PALACE OF LA RAMBLA Splendid Renaissance façade attributed to Vandelvira.
MURALLA DE LA CAVA (CITY WALLS) These are the best preserved remains of the old walls that surrounded the city, with an entrance and some steps leading to the parapet walk.
HOUSE OF LAS TORRES This noble residence was built in 1520 and gets its name from the towers which decorate it. The façade is a magnificent example of Plateresque style. Its double-tiered patio with marble pillars is decorated with coats of arms and medallions with busts. The building is now the School of Applied Arts.
CHURCH OF SANTA MARÍA DE LOS REALES ALCÁZARES It is situated inside the medieval fortress, on the site of the former mosque. It was made a Collegiate in 1259. The main façade is Renaissance, a work of Pedro Vera. It has a beautiful Gothic cloister of irregular shape which was once the patio of the mosque. Amongst its chapels, we must highlight the Ivy Chapel for its magnificent reja and the Becerra Chapel. The main chapel stands on the place where the first mass after the Christian conquest was said.
SACRED CHAPEL OF EL SALVADOR The Sacred Chapel of El Salvador is one of the masterpieces in Spanish Renaissance. Don Francisco de los Cobos y Molina, Secretary of State of the Emperor Carlos V, ordered its construction as a family vault. The design is by Diego de Siloé, the execution by Andrés de Vandelvira and the sculptures by Esteban Jamete. It is composed of a single nave with side chapels. Over the high altar, we can see a group of sculptures showing the Transfiguration, by Alonso Berruguete. On the outside, the exterior façade represents astrological, physical, religious and historical themes.
PARADOR NACIONAL DEL CONDESTABLE DÁVALOS The Parador Nacional del Condestable Dávalos was built in the 16th century and was the residence of Dean Ortega. It is a Renaissance work of Andres de Vandelvira. In 1930 it was transformed into a Parador de Turismo, one of the first in Spain.
PALACE OF LAS CADENAS It has been the home of the Town Hall since the end of the 19th century. It gets its name from the iron chains which once decorated its main door. It was commissioned by Juan Vázquez de Molina, whose coat of arms hangs over the main door. The palace was designed by Andres de Vandelvira. It is an example of balance and harmony between the classical architectural orders with some Andalusian additions.
PALACE OF VELA DE LOS COBOS The palace was built in the mid 16th century commissioned by Don Francisco Vela de los Cobos, governor of Úbeda. It is a work of Andres de Vandelvira, an authentic jewel of the Renaissance which houses an interesting collection of works of art.
ROYAL MONASTERY OF SANTA CLARA It is the oldest in the city and was built in 1290. Its classicist façade gives way to a patio with a Gothic-mudejar entrance which leads to the temple. The Catholic Queen Isabel lodged here on her way to the conquest of Granada.
CHURCH OF SAN PEDRO This is the chapel of the Carmelite School. On the outside, we must point out the Romanesque apse and the Renaissance façade; inside, there is a coffered ceiling which covers the barrel vault of its single nave. The Emperor Carlos V and King Felipe II swore before the image of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios to maintain the privileges given to the city by their ancestors.
CLOCK TOWER It was built in the 16th century from donations made by the people, on the site of one of the old wall towers. An image of the Virgen de los Remedios is kept inside a small niche.
HOSPITAL OF SANTIAGO The Hospital was built by Andres de Vandelvira in the 16th century commissioned by Don Diego de los Cobos, Bishop of Jaen. It has been called the “Escorial of Andalusia” due to its Renaissance balance. Façade, patio, staircase and chapel form one of the Renaissance masterpieces in Andalusia.
PUERTA DEL LOSAL ENTRANCE This entrance was part of the walls which surrounded the city and leads to the San Millan district, a district which still preserves its Arab urban layout.
ORATORY OF SAN JUAN DE LA CRUZ This is the place where San Juan de la Cruz died in 1591. Later the temple and a museum were built. The museum contains objects related to his life, amongst which we must point out a drawing of the Crucifixión as seen by the saint in a vision and which would later inspire Dali’s Cristo.
CHURCH OF SAN PABLO It was built in the 13th century on the site of an old mosque. The Church was partially destroyed by fire in 1368 during the fighting between Pedro el Cruel and Enrique de Trastamara and for this reason, only the original structure of the west door remains. The rest of the church is Gothic and Plateresque. Inside, there are magnificent chapels, amongst which we must highlight the Chapel of Camarero Vago also known as de las Calaveras (the Skulls).
CHURCH OF LA TRINIDAD This temple was built in the 13th century, though its appearance is Baroque due to the restoration carried out in the 18th century after its collapse in 1630. It has an adjoining cloister, the only remains of the convent of the same name to which the church belonged. It is the first Baroque temple in Jaen with wreathed columns.

Úbeda is undoubtedly an artistic and monumental city , and one of the most glorious and stately in Andalusia. Castillian and Renaissance through and through, it contains so many monuments, churches, palaces and noble houses that it is best to take a walk and let oneself be transported to the time of its historic splendour. The Chapel of El Salvador, situated in the incomparable Town Hall Square, the Church of San Pablo, the Church of Santa María de los Reales Alcázares, the Church of la Trinidad, the Oratory of San Juan de la Cruz, the Monastery of Santa Clara, the Palace of the Vela de los Cobos Family, the Palace of las Cadenas, the House of las Torres, the Hospital of Santiago, the Hospital of los Honorados Viejos del Salvador, the Clock Tower, the Murallas de la Cava (city walls), the Pottery Museum and the Parador Nacional de Turismo, are some of the marvels to be found in this surprising city.

As well as these delights, we suggest a walk along the walls to enjoy the splendid views and a visit to its potteries, specially, the Paco-Titos house-museum.
