La Giralda. Tower of the cathedral of Seville
Ruinas del Acueducto Los restos que quedan se hallan en la calle Luís Montoto y son conocidos como "Los Caños de Carmona". El visitante encontrará unos cuantos arcos de ladrillo y piedra. Formaban estos parte del acueducto romano que abastecía de agua a la ciudad, desde el manantial de Santa Lucía en Alcalá de Guadaira. Aunque sólo se conservan esta parte tan pequeña, el acueducto estuvo en servicio hasta el siglo pasado.
Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza Junto al teatro de su mismo nombre, hallamos La Maestranza, construida entre los siglos XVIII y XIX es considerada, tanto por su belleza y su excelente acústica como por su tradición, la catedral del mundo taurino. Curiosamente su ruedo es algo "imperfecto", irregular, al no representar ni un círculo ni un óvalo perfectos. Dentro de sus instalaciones el visitante podrá encontrar un Museo y una Biblioteca Taurina.
Catedral y Giralda "Hagamos una iglesia tan grande que nos tengan por locos", exclamó el Cabildo al decidir construir la Catedral. Levantada en el siglo XV sobre el primitivo espacio de una mezquita almohade, pertenece al estilo gótico tardío. Integrada en ella se encuentra la Giralda, torre alminar de la mezquita, a la que posteriormente se añadió un cuerpo de campañas coronado con El Giraldillo, una escultura en bronce de la Victoria de la Fe.
Cachorro Bridge Also known as Chapina Bridge, this was constructed over the “Chapina stopper” ("tapón de Chapina") (this barrier was placed on the river to avoid flooding of the city) when the latter was opened for Expo’92. The work of the engineer José Luís Manzanares, its 220 metres long, with a single span of 130 m. of light. It is covered with canvas to protect pedestrians from the sun and rain.
Estadio Olímpico La pretensión de Sevilla de ser Sede Olímpica, ha hecho necesario contar con un gran estadio que ofrecer al Comité Olímpico Internacional. Desde 1999 Sevilla cuenta con él. Está situado muy cerca del recinto de Cartuja’93 y junto al Parque del Alamillo. Su inauguración coincidió con la del Campeonato Mundial de Atletismo de 1999, el último del siglo XX, celebrado en esta ciudad.
Puente de la Barqueta Con motivo de la Exposición Universal de 1992, se unió la isla de la Cartuja, lugar de esta muestra, con la ciudad mediante una serie de puentes. Este puente está situado frente al Convento de San Clemente y desemboca en la entrada a Isla Mágica. Obra de Juan José Arenas y Marcos Pantaleón, es un tablero suspendido de un arco que se abre en sus extremos en dos, para "amarrarse" a ambos lados del río.
Alamillo Park Close to the Alamillo bridge and the Olympic Stadium, on the Alamillo Estate (Cortijo del Alamillo) - today the administrative headquarters of the park - the visitor has at his disposal an extensive well-equipped area for relaxation. This recently-created park is peculiar in that the plant species cultivated here represent all those which are found in the different botanical regions of the province.
Isla Mágica When Expo’92 ended, in order to utilise the technological and urbanistic infrastructures of the area where this international event took place, the zone was designated for business and leisure activities. Isla Magica was built on the Lago de España, an amusement park with the Era of the Discoveries as its theme.
Triana Ceramics The artistic ceramic and pottery tradition in Seville was handed down by the Arabs. The advent of glazing meant that ceramic fixtures began to be incorporated into architecture: facades, floors, window-sills and roofing. Today artistic ceramic production is centralised in Triana, also the name given to a unique style employed here: Hand-painted scenes, and especially tiles, plates, jars and flower-pots.
Parque de María Luisa El Parque de María Luisa, tal como hoy lo conocemos, es el resultado de la Exposición Iberoamericana de 1929. Anteriormente fueron jardines del Palacio de San Telmo, propiedad de la familia Montpensier. En 1893 la Infanta María Luisa donó estos jardines para uso y disfrute de la ciudad. De trazado francés (avenidas y glorietas), cuenta con vegetación subtropical. Para el visitante es recomendable recorrerlo en coche de caballos.
Calle Sierpes La calle Sierpes es la calle de Sevilla. Es camino y es término en sí misma. Une la Plaza de San Francisco con La Campana y, en ese recorrido, se nota, rozándose con la gente, la energía, el embrujo, la síntesis del alma de Sevilla: su definición mágica. Es la calle del paseo y del trato, de la tertulia y la magia, del postinero y el bohemio, del artista y del jefe, del beato y el pícaro. Es ese lugar de encuentro, tan localista como universal, en el que es imposible explicarse qué es lo que te está embrujando.
Plaza Nueva The facade of the Town Hall looks onto this plaza or square. It’s an important nucleus where, besides being the confluence of the streets which take the visitor to the most important parts of the city centre, it is also the terminus for the main urban bus lines. The sculpture in the square is of Fernando III el Santo, St. Fernando, the conqueror of Seville in the XIII century.
Estación de Santa Justa Obra de Antonio Cruz y Antonio Ortiz, en 1992 vino a centralizar las dos estaciones en funcionamiento, San Bernardo y Plaza de Armas. Supone un nuevo trazado de vías subterráneas, más acorde con las nuevas necesidades de la ciudad. Consta de un gran vestíbulo y una gran nave de andenes. Su inauguración coincidió con la puesta en servicio en España del A.V.E. mediante la primera línea: Sevilla-Madrid
Alamillo Bridge This was designed by Santiago Calatrava as a display of technical prowess. Today it provides competition for the Giralda, another "beacon" of the city. Basically this is an enormous mast, the weight and inclination of which compensate for the tension of the braces which “anchor” the platform. As a sculptural work the ambivalence it suggests is extremely interesting: power as part of a graceful and delicate figure.
Recinto Cartuja’93 Tras la celebración de la Exposición Universal de Sevilla en 1992, el recinto de la Isla de la Cartuja quedó dotado de una infraestructura urbanística y tecnológica de primera línea en el mundo. Desde 1993 se comenzaron a utilizar estas instalaciones para actividades mercantiles, culturales y de esparcimiento. Junto al río Guadalquivir y unida a la ciudad por una serie de puentes, la zona se abrió con el nombre de Cartuja’93.

Impossible to find another urban centre which boasts such varied and unusual monuments and places of such beauty as the Giralda, the Cathedral, Reales Alcázares (Arabic Palace), the Torre del Oro, the Patio de los Naranjos, the Maestranza (bull-ring), the Casa de Pilatos, the Plaza de España, the María Luisa Park, the Maestranza theatre, the Saint Telmo Palace, the Archivo de las Indias (Indian Archives), the Barrio de Santa Cruz (Santa Cruz district in the city centre), the Lonja, the Palacio Arzobispal (Archbishop's Palace), the Fábrica de Tabacos (Tabacco Factory), Town Hall, the Dueñas Palace, the Don Fadrique tower, the city walls, the Macarena basilica, the Fine Art Museum, the Contemporary Art museum, the Alameda de Hércules, the barrio de Triana (Triana district), the bridges over the Guadalquivir, the Cartuja island and monastery and the site of Expo 92, the buildings from the Universal exhibition in 1929, the Casa de Luca de Tena, the patios of its traditional houses, the balconies and railings, as well as an endless number of churches, convents and other details which convert the ancient city centre into an open-air museum.

If we add to this its taverns, its cuisine, its festivals, and the humour and hospitality of its people, we have formed a generous whole, full of colour, drama, light, music, joy, tradition and modernity which is difficult to match.
