It is a great sporting event, not only for the stables and riders that take part, but also for the many prizes on offer, donated by local businesses, bodies and institutions.
The beach becomes an improvised hippodrome that attracts thousands of people, turning this unique tradition into a spectacle not to be missed.
The races are renowned the world over and have been designated Fiesta of International Tourist Interest. They are held every year in August and are divided into two, 3-day cycles. The races are always at dusk and low tide, and the beach acts as an improvised stand for all those who want to enjoy the show. Are you going to miss it?
During the year there will be preliminaries as Morphological Horses Competition in March and in August, other events such as competitions of photos, kites, sand castles and figures, sports, soccer, table tennis and tennis.
The schedule of races will not know until that day, depending on the number of horses that run and the state of the tide. Usually, they are during the afternoon, from 18:30 h. Before each race, participants will pass in front of the public, and then they will go to boxes.
The different tests and awards depend on the characteristics of the horse, age, fitness, speed and awards received, the weight of the rider and other considerations that establish different categories in which it competes. Admission is free.
The site covers 20,000 m2, where you could find betting shops, facilities for horses and riders, and all of the facilities of a conventional racetrack. All this with the marvellous surrounding landscape, showing beautiful sunsets by the sea, at the mouth of the Guadalquivir River, linked to the profiles of magic Coto de Doñana.
