The main feature of this festival is its large doses of fun and good humour. The carnival is eagerly awaited by the local inhabitants, who take part in fancy-dress competitions and sing satirical songs in the carnival groups known as "chirigotas" and "comparsas" which are so typical of these festivities.
Throughout the different days of Carnival there is a programme of activities in the various parts of the town organised by the neighbourhood associations and the carnival clubs. One of the highlights of the programme every year is the Festival of Tagarniná, which is held in the Caños de Aranda and features performances by local groups.
