Museum "Animals Exhibition: The Art of Taxidermy"
Type of event: Exhibitions
The Science Park in Granada is offering the public the chance to discover taxidermy, the art of preserving animals, and its educational and scientific applications. Visitors can learn first-hand about the history of this ancient practice and the technologies and methodology employed by taxidermists.
Approximately 100 naturalised examples of 40 large mammal species are on display, as well as skins, tools, books, recreations and models.
A lioness hunting a group of zebras, the stampede of 17 goats all joined together and supported by a single foot, and two Bengal tigers stalking a group of boars are just three of the most interesting scenes at the exhibition, which shows nature in its wildest state.
The exhibition is divided into 10 sections: “Methods of preservation”, “The history of taxidermy”, “Scientific taxidermy”, “Technology and tools”, “Mounting skeletons”, “Tanning the skin”, “Naturalised animals”, “Hands-on workshop”, “Taxidermy workshop” and “Find out more”.
Primarily the work of the well-known taxidermist and sculptor Antonio Pérez, the exhibition offers visitors the chance to explore nature through the art of taxidermy, while simultaneously raising awareness about the importance of protecting and preserving vulnerable species.
