“Avant-garde Pathways” Exhibition
Type of event: Exhibitions
Avant-garde Pathways is the title of a retrospective that the Museo Picasso is dedicating to Sophie Taeuber-Arp, a multifaceted artist from the first third of the 20th century who embraced a broad range of artistic disciplines, including painting, dance, design, set design, crafts and architecture.
The exhibition features over 130 pieces on loan from museums, institutions and collections around the world, and offers an overview of the artist’s work through her paintings, drawings, collages, textiles, puppets, plans, photographs, sculptures and furniture.
Avant-garde Pathways is divided into three sections.
Broken Rhythm explores the work from her earliest period, in which "Dada" and "Constructivism" coexist openly, side by side.
Inhabiting Spaces offers an insight into the artist’s contributions to interior design and architecture.
Living Geometry focuses on her geometric compositions, which are infused with her passion for integrating opposites.
Each of the works on display reveals the dynamics created by the tension between contradictory territories and the integration of life and art that are so characteristic of Sophie Taeuber-Arp’s work.
