On 7 September the pilgrimage from the town of Albox to the Saliente Shrine, declared National Tourist Interest in Spain, begins. That day the "romeros" (pilgrims) start the pilgrimage on foot or in motor vehicles, from different parts of the neighbouring regions. They all form a fervent entourage that goes up the hill singing and in a happy atmosphere.
When the romeros mass has finished and after praying the Angelus, it is the most awaited moment for all those present: the Virgen del Saliente, popularly known as "La Pequeñica", procession.
Many people visit the shrine during the day and walk around the stands, give donations and ask for mass. Two of the main aspects are the fervent atmosphere and respect for tradition.
The Virgen del Saliente Pilgrimage was declared of Andalusian Tourist Interest in 2002.
