Biography
Arturo Pavón Sánchez was born in Seville in 1930. He was the first flamenco pianist in history. He was the son of flamenco dancer Eloísa Albéniz and singer Arturo Pavón, nephew of the historic flamenco singer La Niña de los Peines and Tomás Pavón, husband of singer Luisa Ortega :daughter of singer Manolo Caracol- and father of singer Salomé and dancer Jordana.
Arturo Pavón studied at the Real Conservatorio de Música of Seville. From 1949, after his debut in Teatro Calderón in Madrid, he made a tour throughout Spain, offering concerts with his versions of the different flamenco styles. He was part of his wife´s flamenco company in 1954, and accompanied her songs with the piano. He also accompanied his father-in-law with the latter´s songs and zambras in different tours throughout Spain and America, with great success. From 1961, he performed in flamenco bar Los Canasteros.
He is the author of a great number of pieces and had the admiration of Andalusian art lovers A popular homage was paid to him in 1965, in the missing Circo Price. Some of his best records include «Suite flamenca» (Philips, 1991). He is considered as the most important pianist that has adapted flamenco to the piano. After a long illness, he died in Madrid on the 6th of June, 2005.
