Visita guiada a las Ruinas de Itálica

The gateway to the archaeological enclosure, in the municipality of Santiponce, marks the start of Naturanda's tour of the stunning, ancient Roman city of Itálica.

The city was founded in 206 BC by General Publio Cornelio Escipión “the African” and its importance stemmed from the welcome it gave to legionnaires wounded at the battle of Ilipa against the Carthaginians in the second Punic War. The archaeological site of Itálica is significant because of its importance in the Roman world, in ancient Hispania.

Itálica is currently the most important archaeological site in the province of Seville. Once you arrive in Itálica, our official guide will make a short presentation of the site and you will enter the ancient city where you will discover its secrets and the interpretations of what you see. Ancient streets, mosaics, baths and houses like Neptune's house are just some of the wonders preserved there that you will have the opportunity to discover. The city that was the birthplace of the emperors Trajan and Hadrian, and senators of the time and other significant characters in the Empire, is currently a candidate to be included in 2020 as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. You will visit the famous Amphitheatre, one of the largest in the world, that seated 25,000 spectators and where the famous gladiator fights took place. In recent years it has become increasingly popular as it was a location for the popular Game of Thrones series.

Our visitors get the chance to walk through the "arena" and see inside the galleries, taking you back 2,000 years to the Roman era.
