Antiquarium
The Antiquarium is an archaeological site which condenses the history of Seville, from the 1st century A.D. up to the 13th century.
The construction works for the Metropol Parasol unearthed Roman remains, from the age of Tiberius (30 A.D.) up to the sixth century and a Moorish house dating from the XII and XIII centuries. This site also reveals information about the Middle Ages, and the modern and contemporary periods.
Antiquarium is designed to be an enclosed space where visitors do not have the feeling of being limited by concrete walls. A glass membrane envelopes the entire space, and because it changes in an almost chameleonic way, and varies its properties, it also alters our perception: it can be clear or translucent, passing through all the intermediate grades; allowing an image to be seen or reflecting it, letting the light pass or reflecting it.
This effect, coupled with the hanging walls (built with metal textiles) and the lanterns, effectively recreates the sensations of the spaces in which our ancestors lived.
