In the city of Almuñécar, the Bonsai garden museum has a surface area of 2000 square metres and more than 200 specimens on display, which make it the most important one in Andalusia and one of the best in Spain.
It was created to promote and spread knowledge of the Japanese culture of the bonsai and to strengthen a love of trees and nature, displaying a large number of species, both Asian and European, autochthonous from the province or the Mediterranean coast.
The Bonsai garden museum comprises two types of gardens, one humid and another dry or” Zen” garden, which have all the species that shape the art of the bonsai: conifers, deciduous, fruit, floral, evergreen species, subtropical, Asian species and species that are native to the Mediterranean climate, such as wild olive, almond and carob trees. The museum will show you a little piece of Japan and its culture; you will find beautiful, old, garden lanterns; the pool of sacred carp; exotic Buddhist fountains; centennial trees; beautiful torii gates; all in a setting of peace and serenity, in Andalusia.
