Monte La Sierra Peri-urban Park is a small ecological paradise just a few kilometres from the city of Jaén. The landscape here goes from rugged, craggy relief to gentle undulating ridges. From Otíñar Canyon to the Quiebrajano Reservoir there is a series of steep slopes.

Typical Mediterranean vegetation - holm oaks, Portuguese oaks and wild olive trees, alternating with re-planted pine trees. The most common animals in this area are mountain goats and boar, while squirrels can be seen in the branches of the trees, with Bonelli's eagles and goshawks in flight high above.

The huge canyons have all but vertical walls and are ideal for climbing - with many established routes. There are some examples of prehistoric art to be seen in the caves here, such as those at Los Herreros Cave.

The landscape in these mountains is also marked by two valleys - the Quiebrajano River and Cañada de las Hazadillas. El Vitor viewpoint is above the narrow canyon carved out by the aforementioned river, with excellent views of the area. Furthermore, close by there is an interesting Neolithic dolmen. In Cañada de las Hazadillas there are various facilities for leisure activities and environmental education, as well as several routes for hiking and cycle-touring.
