This is the highlight of the Easter week celebrations in Alhaurín el Grande.
Declared a festivity of National Tourist Interest, the Paso consists of key scenes from the Passion of Christ, re-enacted by the Brotherhood of the Santa Vera-Cruz and the brotherhood of Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno, who are popularly known as the “moraos” (purples) and the “verdes” (greens) respectively.
On Good Friday the events depicted include the second part of Jesus' trial before Pilate, the flagellation, the Ecce Homo, the death sentence, and the moving scene known as the Presentation of the Cross, the moment when Jesus is handed the Cross which he will carry up to Calvary. After this representation, the Brotherhood of the Santa Vera-Cruz re-enacts the Crucifixion of Christ and the Descent from the Cross.
The live re-enactment of Christ's resurrection takes place starting at midnight on Holy Saturday. This includes scenes of great aesthetic beauty, beginning with the moving of Christ's body to the sepulchre, the holy burial, Mary's lamentation, the meeting of the Sanhedrin, the Resurrection, Jesus' appearances to Mary Magdalene and to Saint Peter and Saint John, and the appearance at the Cenacle.
