Built in the mid-16th century and restored in the 18th century, it has come to be known as "the cathedral" due to its enormous size.

It has a basilical floor plan and three naves. It is covered with tunnel and groin vaults, and the naves are separated by semi-circular arches on pillars. The side aisles of the façade have octagonal bell towers with Moorish slate roofs. In the basement on the interior there is an old cemetery where tradition holds that after many years of burial, the corpses have been disinterred embalmed and completely whole. There are two mummies in good condition in the pantheon of the church.

The church also contains the baptismal font where Friar Leopoldo was baptised, and numerous pilgrims from all over Andalusia make the journey to visit this church.
