Angelita Vargas (Sevilla, 1946) started her artist career when she was just three. At the age of eight, she performed in Festivals throughout Spain. At that time, she was called 'La Gitanilla'. From there on, her dance has been all the rage She worked in Madrid in the tablao "Las Brujas" and she married José Cortés 'El Biencasao' when she was 15, who often is her dance partner.
She took part in the acclaimed show 'Flamenco Puro' that was really successful first in the Festival d'Automne of Paris and later on in New York, where it was on for a period of time in Broadway.
Angelita has gone on a tour throughout Holland, Germany, South America, Japan and other countries. She was presented with her family in the Lope de Vega theatre during the 6th Flamenco Biennial of Seville. She performed solo in the show 'La Diosa', performed in Madrid and Seville.
In the Lope de Vega theatre she was presented with Aurora Vargas in 'Azabache y Cora' in April 1997 In 1998, she performed in 'Huellas: Antología de un tiempo' in the Maestranza theatre. She presented her group in the EXPO'98 (Lisbon) and went on a tour with the show 'El Flamenco y el Son Cubano', per initiative of the County Council of Seville. In autumn 1998, she went on a great tour around Japan with her company after triumphing in the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London, and in the National Concert Hall, Dublin, in the course 'Women in Tradition'.
In the 10th Flamenco Biennial, she performed with her group the show 'Extremo Puro', which emphasized the native style of her homwtown. In April 1999 Angelita presented her group again in the Lope de Vega theatre in Seville, in the course 'Noches Flamencas', and at the end of April, she performed in Vredenburg, Utrecht (Holland) in the show 'Una Noche de Flamenco Puro' in her tour around the country. She took part in the last edition of the Musiktriennale Koln Festival, the most prestigious German event.
Currently, she is completely devoted to teaching apart from her professional obligations, that perfectly fit in with her natural gift of communicating by means of her dance She simply says: 'yo hablo bailando'. (I speak dancing)
