Constructed in 1585, this building represents an example of late-Renaissance architecture and also reflects the city´s desire to authenticate the Renaissance style used at the time through Roman remains unearthed in the area. After the wall on either side of the arch had been built, the municipal council decided to position Roman statues and gravestones discovered in nearby settlements on top of it. The surrounding wall is over two metres thick and the arch itself stands seven metres high. The city´s coat of arms features a vase of stargazer lilies, the castle and the cornice lion.
