Located in the municipal area of Baena, Cueva del Yeso is the fourth largest gypsum cave in Spain and the first to open its doors to the public. It is the only cave in the Guadalquivir Valley and the only cave with water origins in Cordoba.

The visitor route is 200 metres long and the tour lasts approximately one hour. With walkways and staircases, the tour is comfortable and accessible. There is indoor lighting but visitors will also be given a helmet with a front light to increase visibility before the tour begins.

In the cave's different galleries and rooms you can see magnificent forms of gypsum crystals, lakes and fanciful formations. The cave is also home to a large colony of bats and a species of prawn that may be unique in the world, as various European, Canadian and Chilean researches have discovered.

The cave has a constant temperature year round of around 21 degrees. Its humidity is over 90%, meaning the thermal sensation is similar to a tropical climate.

How to get to the cave From Baena, take the A-3125 road to Cañete de las Torres, passing the bridge over the Guadajoz River at kilometre 26,300. On the left you will find La Venta de la Maturra, which is the perfect place to park (Point 0 - 30S 380436 4170795 ED50D). Here, visitors will be collected by the guide who will be accompanying them during their visit. We recommend arriving 10 minutes beforehand. Visits: November to February, subject to registration at the Tourist Office. Opening Times: Consult the Tourist Office.
