Easter week in Baeza was declared a Festival of Tourist Interest in 1980 and of National Tourist Interest in Andalusia in 1997.
With its own profile of personalities, this Renaissance city acquires a certain magnificence and extraordinary emotion. Some of the Brotherhoods date back to the 16th and 17th centuries.
Between Palm Sunday and the Resurrection twenty-one brotherhoods make processions through the city. Such a large number of brotherhoods gives you an idea not only of the importance of Easter week in the life of the city today, but also tells us of the rich seminary past of Baeza during the Early Middle Ages and the Modern Era, when it was one of the richest agricultural and manufacturing cities in the Upper Guadalquivir, as well as being the episcopal See and home of the Theological University of the Holy Trinity.
