For centuries different civilisations have been passing through Baños de la Encina. With this legendary offer we introduce you to 4,000 years of history of one of the most beautiful towns in Spain.

We invite you to discover Peñalosa, a mining and metal-working Argaric (Bronze Age) town that has been preserved intact since 2,500 BC, a unique archaeological site in the Iberian Peninsula. You will also discover the castle of Baños de la Encina, a melting pot of cultures.

At about 10am you can enjoy a guided hiking tour of barely 3 kilometres along the waterside path parallel to the El Rumblar Reservoir. The hiking route starts at the tourist office and accompanied by a guide you take the broad path, also called that of the Cueva de la Mona that takes you downhill on the Cerro del Cueto on top of which stands the Castle of Baños de la Encina. This leads to the Charcones recreational area where you will see one of the wells and troughs at the old livestock resting place and that are still intact. The path continues between eucalyptus trees parallel to the Valdeloshuertos river bed on its way to the El Rumblar Reservoir. As we continue, water level permitting, you will see the structure of Cayetana Fountain, of Roman origin and associated with the stretch of Roman road that went from Cástulo to Sisapo and that followed our route.

In the afternoon, after enjoying some local cuisine based on the meats and spices of the Sierra Morena, you will visit a great defensive stronghold of the Castle of Baños de la Encina, an archaeological site with Argaric, Iberian, Roman, Almohad and Castilian remains. The rammed earth walls have preserved its great historical legacy for centuries.
