Easter week is intense in Campillos. Its streets, residents and visitors alike live these days with great fervour.
The first documentary evidence of the brotherhoods dates back to the 16th century, though it can be said that there were penitential processions since the foundation of the city (1492).
Ten are the thrones that appear in the processions of Campillos during Easter week, two for each of the existing brotherhoods.
Easter week is special for the everything in the municipality, even for lunch. These days, its rich cuisine is limited to those foods that are barely eaten the rest of the year, particularly cod, the staple of the holy days. The aniseed “ochíos” deserve special mention, hard sweets that are hounded out in the homes of the "Mayordomos" during the processions or in another home that lives and feels part of this Holy Week.
