The Parish Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción is located in the southern part of the village in the area commonly known as "El Palacio".

It is located in a high area next to the old riverbed of the Guadalquivir, from where the Vega can be seen.

Construction began in 1555 by Juan Pérez Caravallo, but work was halted and resumed in 1619 by Diego López Bueno.

It is characterised by its basilica floor plan with three naves. The central nave is covered by a striking coffered ceiling from the mid-16th century and the side naves by wooden beams with a single sloping roof. The naves are separated by three large semicircular arches on each side.
The transept is crowned by a vault with a Flemish-style ironwork design, notable for its complexity and harmonious curvilinear design, on which the coats of arms of the Counts of Cantillana appear.

The tower was built in the 18th century by the diocesan architect Diego Antonio Díaz. In 1786 important works were carried out, such as the completion of the neoclassical headers on the mouldings of the temple.

Inside, the current main altarpiece comes, for the most part, from the convent of Santo Domingo de Carmona and is the work of Juan Gatica, from the beginning of the 17th century. In the centre is the image of the Assumption of the Virgin and on the sides are Saint Joachim, Saint Anne and various Dominican saints. To the left of the church is the chapel of the Sagrario, with a beautiful altarpiece by the sculptor Jerónimo Hernández de Estrada, presided over by the image of a Baroque Immaculate Conception. In it, a 17th century Saint Peter and an interesting painting of the Suffering Trinity stand out. In this same chapel there is an altarpiece with the Virgin of Bethlehem, an image that was very popular.

In the Epistle nave is the image of the Divina Pastora, in the old main altarpiece of the Franciscan convent. It contains images of Santa Clara and San Diego de Alcalá.

The paintings in the chapel are by a local painter, Ricardo López Cabrera and José María Labrador. In the same, images of the Cristo de la Misericordia, by Castillo Lastrucci, and the Virgen de la Caridad, by Francisco Buiza.

In the church you can also see an 18th century rocaille cross and the images of Saint Joseph, the Virgin of the Vow, the Crucified Christ of Saint Philip and Christ tied to the Column.

The sacristy houses important pieces of gold and silverware, such as monstrances, chalices, trays, etc. from the 16th-19th centuries and some paintings, several by the local painter Antonio Sánchez Palma.
