Biography
Carmen Cortés was born in Barcelona of Andalusian parents. Her first contact with dance came through Flamenco. She learned about Classical Dance at the National School of Ballet. She graduated in Dance at the Conservatorio Superior de Danza in Madrid; She has a Masters Degree in Performing Arts from the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid and she is a member of the UNESCO International Dance Council. It is married to Gerardo Núñez, a guitarist from Jerez.
Carmen Cortés has been able to combine the authentic with the orthodox in the world of Flamenco, effortlessly including elements which are far from the classic racial content. Her concept of dance is both creative and independent. Flamenco rules lose their severity. Her dancing is full of opposing nuances and absolute dedication that make it unique.
