History
The first human settlements date from prehistoric times. There are also remains from Iberian and Roman times.During the al-Andalus period, the Visigoth castle was rebuilt.
Between 1371 and 1376 King Enrique III of Castille granted jurisdiction and rule over the village to Don Men Rodriguez, whose castle remains today.
In 1473, King Enrique IV gave the duchy of Santisteban to Don Diego Sanchez de Benavides general of the bishopric of Jaen in thanks for his support against the Arabs.
The name Castillo was changed to Castellar del Condado between the end of the 14th and beginning of the 15th century. At the beginning of the 19th century it became Castellar de Santisteban del Puerto.
