More than thirty gigantic trees in the Sierra de La Sagra, in the province of Granada between the towns of Huéscar and La Puebla de Don Fadrique, make up one of the rare sequoia forests to be found in Europe.
These trees are almost two hundred years old and originated in North America. They are popularly known as 'Mariantonias', which was the name of the wife of the Marquis of Corvera, the owner of the La Losa estate, who introduced the species to Granada.
It is listed as a Unique Andalusian Grove, and the largest tree is almost 75 metres tall and it takes more than five people with outstretched arms to reach all around the trunk. A few years ago this exceptional grove had to be fenced off to protect it and to prevent deterioration.
This wonderful marvellous feature can currently be visited, but in an orderly manner and in groups. For this you need to contact the Cronos Heritage and Culture Association in Huéscar.
The sequoias are located 195 kilometres from Granada. Access is via the A-92 to Huéscar, taking the Castril turn off.
After three kilometres there is a sign indicating that it is 23 kilometres to the trees.

Visits can be arranged with the Cronos Heritage and Culture Association.
