Biography
Mercedes Fernández Vargas was born in Jerez de la Frontera in 1834 and died in Utrera in 1912 She is one of the pillars of the 'soleá´ song from Utrera She developed into a singer in her home land, Jerez de la Frontera, but moved to Utrera, where she married the father of the Álvarez Quintero´s, to enriched her art She was also a guitarist and was able to transmit her creations to Manuel Torre and Pastora Pavón, amongst others, thanks to whom we currently know her legacy, since Mercé didn´t record anything
