A village right on the coast, which is outside Vélez-Málaga, like Mezquitilla, between the municipalities of Algarrobo and Torrox.

Lagos is the most eastern village in Vélez-Málaga and it borders on the village of El Morche, in Torrox, to the east.

History

Its geographical location has a historical explanation, apart from the municipality of Vélez-Málaga.

Since 1501, Malaga had jurisdiction over 27 villages in the Axarquía, from Benajarafe to Maro on the coast.

Based on the prerogative they were granted by the Constitution, in 1821 during the Liberal Triennium, Algarrobo, Torrox and Nerja, as well as other inland villages, became municipalities with their own town halls. Lagos did not qualify because it had less than 1,000 inhabitants, which was the requirement for independence, so it continued to be part of the municipality of Vélez-Málaga.
