The center of Interpretation of Marble that is conceived as a cultural space where history, art, tradition and innovation coexist harmoniously to offer us a complete overview of the Macael Marble Culture. Inside we find panels with information in Spanish and English.
Starting with its traditions and its historical evolution, continuing with different geological aspects, the methods and tools that were used traditionally both in its extraction and in its transformation, the evolution in the transport of the material, the modern extraction process, the ecological-landscape restoration of quarries and dumps, the methods used in the different typologies that are distinguished in the subsector of the transformation currently: processing factories, stone mills and the craft workshops, and ending with a look to the future with the innovation in the stone industry, and within it, stone artificial.
All this information is supported by a fantastic collection of ethnographic elements related to the traditional exploitation of marble, especially handicraft tools and parts; in addition to models, recreations, lecterns interactive and video screens.The upper floor tries to highlight the undoubted bond of the marble of Macael with art. In it you can enjoy permanent exhibitions and temporary photography, sculpture and other elements.
Continuing with the second part of the visit, we will have the opportunity to experience the process of extraction of marble and the elaboration of a piece of this material thanks to virtual reality, becoming stonemasons and artisans.It is about the 3D multisensory experience “From the Extraction to Exhibition: A Journey to How Rocks Become masterpieces". Feel the movement, the heat, the humidity, the air, the odors from all operations involved in the process of exploitation of the marble. Blasting, large machinery, cuts, carvings, etc.
The activity ends with the Experience of carving in marble and mosaics. In a room that recreates the old Workshop of Crafts from "Los Curros", following the advice of our monitor, we will carve an indalo in white marble, making an original magnet to stick in our fridge as a souvenir. In the same way, we will carry out with the different colors of the Macael marble two precious mosaics, one Hispano-Muslim and the other Roman.
