Pedro Martínez is situated north of Hoya de Guadix, at 79 km from the capital of Granada, in an AREA that was inhabited by the first civilizations of Prehistoric men in the Iberian Peninsula, as proven by the archaeological remains found in Llano de la Campana, from the Mesolithic and Neolithic-Bronze periods, and the dolmens of the Mencal.

History

In the Middle Ages it was a borderline that suffered constant Christian incursions, hostility and robbery on the hands of the Castilian horsemen stationed in Cazorla who would attack the Muslim AREA. The Duke gave this AREA to his captain, D. Pedro Martínez, who built the first home. The farmers of these lands were the first inhabitants.
After the disentailment of Mendizábal, this village became an independent municipality.
