Ronda is celebrating its fair and festival in honour of Pedro Romero, the only fair in the world dedicated to a bullfighter.
The inhabitants of Ronda now have a new style of festivities to enjoy, with greater emphasis on the fair which takes place by day in the centre of the city. The main attraction of the Pedro Romero Fair in Ronda is the traditional Corrida Goyesca, or bullfight in traditional dress.
The Goyesque style bullfight has its own personality that makes it different. The unique show of this singular bullfight is combined with the two-hundred-year-old Plaza de la Real Maestranza de Caballería bull ring in Ronda. There are many elements that make the Goyesqie bullfight a special event. There is no doubt that the legendary name of Ronda helps along with its history, the more you delve the further back its history goes, together with the Romantic travellers who opened the way for enthusiasts like Orson Welles and Ernest Hemingway.
The first Goyesque style bullfight was in 1954 on the 200 anniversary of the birth of the singular Ronda bullfighter Pedro Romero. It has been declared to be of National Tourist Interest in Andalucía.
