San Miguel Fair in Vélez-Málaga

It is the most important fair of all in Vélez-Málaga. It is held between the end of September and the beginning of October. The festival is held in the centre of Vélez in the morning and part of the afternoon: in the Carmelites square, Canalejas and Reñidero streets, and the Paseo de Andalusia. In all these streets, there are a wide variety of Casetas (marquee tents) where the traditional dishes of the area can be tasted.

At night, the fair moves to the Real which is next to Avenida Rey Juan Carlos I. In both cases, the atmosphere is typical of Andalusian fairs, with horse riding, women dressed in flamenco-style dresses and men in the traditional 'traje corte' (short jackets, tight trousers and boots), casetas, concerts and other leisure and cultural activities for both young and old.
