The Axarquia is one of the regions with the most character in the province of Málaga. This mountainous area was a refuge for the Moors during the tremendous battle for the Fuerte de Frigiliana during the reign on Felipe II, after which they were displaced to the interior of the province before they were finally expelled from Spain. They left their mark on the region's architecture: white houses, cobbled streets, flowers on the balconies and stone floors.
It is near the sea and features the cultivation of vineyards, olive groves and a variety of subtropical fruits such as avocado, mango, papaya and custard apples.
