Al Sur de Granada (Alpujarras)

The English writer Gerald Brenan was perhaps Andalusia’s last romantic traveller, and"South from Granada" is one of his best-known works. It talks about the landscapes and way of life in and around the Alpujarra village that was his home: Yegen. In the spirit of the writer and his novel, and with the unmistakable backdrop of one of the region’s most emblematic villages, you can actively visit this part of the Alpujarra. Yegen, 1,000 metres above sea level, is situated between the provinces of Granada and Almería, enjoying mild weather and spectacular views that allow us to imagine the sea that lies hidden behind the Sierra de la Contraviesa mountains. Here you can really get back to nature, connect with the locals and explore the trails of the Alpujarra Alta.

Rural Tourism

With your partner, friends or the children, over four days you can enjoy several hiking tours in the surrounding area. There are easy and short hikes, and longer ones for more experienced hikers. The autumn is a very beautiful time of year in the Alpujarra, with a softer light and the beautiful colours of the trees, and you can go hunting for conkers. The place where you will be staying is an old charming restored house, where you will feel at home, whether you are travelling as a couple or as a family with children.

Photos, wine and ham 

You can also visit a ham drying shed in Mecina Bombarón, peruse the photos taken by 'El Dinamarca', a devoted lover of this village for the last 50 years, and visit the house where Brenan stayed when he first came to Yegen. In the surrounding area there are several wineries that can be visited. The country house also has a garden, a vegetable garden and a pool that is integrated into the landscape.
