Biography

Carlos Piñana Conesa was born in Cartagena (Murcia) in 1976 He is son of Antonio Piñana, also a guitarist, and grandson of the famous flamenco singer from Levante of the same name. Carlos first started to learn classical guitar at the Cartagena Music Conservatory in 1996. However, he decided to focus on flamenco and was taught by Manolo SanlúcarRafael Riqueni and Enrique de Melchor He has won the Bordón Minero award in La Unión in 1996 and the Ramón Montoya award at the Cordoba National Contest in 1998.

He released seven records as a soloist: “El cuidado de una esencia” (1996) in which pays heartfelt homage to the figure of his grandfather, "Cal-líbiri“ (1999), “Palosanto” (2001), “Mundos Flamencos” (2003), “Manos Libres” (2011), “Body & Soul” (2013) and “De la raíz al alma” (2015).

Further information

Carlos Piñana published with RGB Arte Visual the Book of Scores for flamenco guitar entitled “Mi Sonanta” and with the publisher Piles, the Book of Scores “Álbum de Guitarra Flamenca”. He also composed, directed and performed the music for the dance shows "Póker Flamenco”, “A Tiempo de Fuego”, “A Compás del Poeta”, “Penélope” and “El Celoso Extremeño” for the Carmen y Matilde Rubio Ballet. He also composed the music for “Romeo y Julieta” for the Compañía Murciana de Danza and participated in documentary “El Proceso Creativo” directed by Miguel Peñalver.

Today he combines his activities as a concert artist with those of teaching, he is Professor of Flamenco Guitar at the Murcia Superior Music Conservatory. Carlos Piñana has a Higher Diploma in Music from the Murcia Superior Music Conservatory and a Masters Degree in Musical Research from the University of Murcia.
