Biography

Mario Escudero was born in Alicante in 1928. While he was still a child he moved to Madrid to perfect his guitar studies and during the first years of his career he was known as Niño de Alicante. When he was 9 years old, he appeared solo andhe played a piece in the Galia Theatre in Bordeaux, France, presented by Maurice Chevalier.

In Madrid he made his debut in 1944 in the Teatro Español together with the flamenco dancer Vicente EscuderoRamón Montoya and Jacinto Almadén. After that he started to tour Spain playing with artists such as José Cepero, Juanito Mojama, El SevillanoCanalejas de Puerto Real, Pepe de la Matrona, Pericón de Cádiz, and many others. Then he toured Europe and the US with Carmen AmayaVicente Escudero and Rosario y Antonio. During one of those trips to the US he decided to stay there.

He became famous there as a soloist and performed in Carnegie Hall in New York in 1955, and became good friends with Sabicas. Because of his relationship with the musician from Pamplona, he met Paco de Lucía, and shared knowledge with him. In 1982 he returned to Sevilla. In 1984 he performed in the 3rd Flamenco Biennale in Seville, where he started an academy.
