La Mota Fortress
Situated on the hill of the same name, La Mota Fortress was declared a National Monument in 1913.
For over 150 years, the La Mota Fortress marked the frontier between the kingdoms of Granada and Castile. Surrounded by several rings of walls, making its perimeter one of the largest in Andalusia, seven gateways, three towers (Homenaje Tower, Campana or Vela Tower and Mocha Tower), the citadel, Abbey Church, etc.
Currently, the La Mota Fortress houses the Vida en la Frontera Visitor Centre.
