The Alhama de Granada Visitor Centre (CIAG) is the new centre for interpretation, knowledge, historical and cultural promotion of Alhama de Granada. Located in the former prison of Alhama de Granada, in the Prisoners Plaza, in the heart of the historic Moorish quarter.

It offers a comprehensive conceptual approach, combining new exhibition techniques, like retroprojector panels, display cases, interactive multimedia elements and a modern 3D projection room.

The Alhama de Granada Visitor Centre (CIAG) has six rooms that reveal the city's history:

Room 1, reception point:

The first room serves as the reception and here we see a gallery of images that welcome the visitor and represent the initial approach to the town's history, from the most remote times to the present.

Room 2, Alhama, city of romances:

This room is dedicated to the History of Alhama, giving special relevance to the romances “Ay de mi Alhama” and “Moro Alcaide”. The floor of this room has a vault that was discovered after the archaeological excavations.

Room 3. Water, fountain of health:

The importance of water in the development of Alhama is explored. The town is known worldwide for the benefits of its hot springs, from Roman times to the present day.

Room 4. The earthquake of Andalusia:

The sad events that took place on the night of December 25, 1884, are commemorated. In a few seconds, the region of Alhama was transformed into a desert of death and destruction.

Room 5. Alhama treasure of Stone and Water:

This is the projection room. Here you can see 3D videos that show the great heritage of Alhama, its landscapes, people, fiestas and traditions.

Room 6. Carnival:

We approach our discovery and enjoyment of one of the oldest and most emblematic rural carnivals of Andalusia: The Carnival of Alhama de Granada.

Wednesday to Sunday, 11am to 3pm.
