The church is situated on the site of an old Moorish mosque and was built around the 16th century, after the general conversion to Christianity.

It looks simple and modest, and inside is one of the most magnificent gems of the Mudejar woodwork from Granada. It is a beautiful octagonal framework with a delicate geometric decoration. Under the framework, on one side of the presbytery, we find the second surprise in this unique church, which goes unnoticed – the Renaissance baptismal font, one of the few that exist in the Guadix diocese. The choir stalls are also a very interesting Baroque work of art, with beautiful carving.

The sundial on one of the church’s façades is quite unique. For a few years it was whitewashed and the paint has now been removed.
