The Old Cathedral is also known as the Church of Santa Cruz, the Parish Church of El Sagrario and Ecclesiastical Accounts. Until 1838 it was the Cathedral of Cádiz (hence its name) and it was built where an old mosque formerly stood.

The primitive church, ordered to be built by Alfonso X "The Wise", was destroyed a number of times. What remains is the arch over the entrance and the Gothic rib vault in the Baptism chapel.

The building of the current Old Cathedral was projected by Cristóbal de Rojas and finished in 1602. It has a rectangular floor plan, with a false transept and three naves separated by Tuscan columns and semi-circular arches. Over the transept there is a hemispherical dome over pendentives. The exterior of the roof is tiled in different colours. The bell tower is separated from the rest of the church and adorned with a spire, also made of polychrome tiles. The Chapel of El Sagrario was completed in 1692, it has a square floor plan and is covered with a false wooden dome. The interior was refurbished by Torcuato Cayón.
