Easter Week in Castro del Río has been known over the years for its professionalism, which, together with the sobriety and austerity of its religious processions, makes it the most Castilian in the area.
The carnival festivities evolved from the appearance of the Flagellants in the Middle Ages to the emergence of the Nazarene spirit of the Council of Trent, which involved the largest structural and religious overhaul of the Catholic Church that lasted with a few tweaks until the Second Vatican Council.
