The Caliphal Baths formed a part of the Caliphal Alcázar in Cordoba and their construction was ordered in the 10th century by Caliph Al-Hakam II for the exclusive enjoyment of the monarch, his harem and his court.

The Caliphal Baths respect the classical order inherited from Roman baths: cold, warm and hot rooms, organised into vaulted spaces and lit with star-shaped skylights. The baths were extended by the Almoravids and Almohads, as archaeological remains found in recent excavations show.
