Albaicín, pasear por el antiguo barrio árabe

Albaicín a walk through the old Arab quarter. 

A trip to Granada must include a private walk through the old Arab quarter, the Barrio del Albaicín. Its cobbled streets, mosaics, cisterns, fountains, light, viewpoints, a charm that you will experience thanks to one of our guides, a World Heritage Site, its  doors and walls preserve traces of Arab times.

The Albaicín offers spectacular viewpoints with stunning views of Granada and the Alhambra. Mirador de San Nicolas and Mirador de San Cristobal viewpoints, or a sunset from Sacromonte. Or the Mirador of  The Great Mosque of Granada, a mosque that opened in 2003. It is the first mosque built in the city since 1492, after 500 years. There are many "carmenes": a Carmen is a house with Arab origin. "Karm" means vine, and in almost all the Carmenes there is a leafy canopy that gives shade to the house.

A fusion between a green space and a building, orchard and garden, a haven that stimulates your five senses – sight and smell, taste of fruits, touch of flower – and the water and its fountains, and pools, essential for watering and drinking but, above all, a symbol of life.

Beauty in a private world, protected by its walls. The Emir of Qatar Tamim Bin Hamad al-Thani bought a carmen with exceptional views of the Alhambra and Sierra Nevada behind it, including the Sacromonte and the Albaicín with the Nasrid wall. The narrow streets of Sacromonte Abbey or the Sacromonte neighbourhood, where the caves are located, separated from the Alhambra by the Darro river, are part of the walk. 

The Bañuelo, in the Bajo Albaicín area, is one of the oldest hammams or Arab public baths  that still exist. Stop for tea to enjoy Arabic flavours.
