The Juderia, with its ocre coloured facades, is rendolent of Old Castille in times gone by. Until 1492 it was the home of the jewish community established by the Muslim Medina. This area was occupied by the Alcaiceria in muslim times, with the Juderia next door.

The Episcopal Palace opposite now houses an important library and rich documentary archive. The Synagogue next to the Adarve was converted into a hospitalfollowinf the reconquest by the Catholic Kings. The house in which the novelist Pedro Antonio de Alarcón was born is on the right hand side of the Adarve.

The school and the convent of the Holy Child is a former Aristocratic palace. The Episcopal Palace opposite has an older section built after the reconquest, next to the garden, also known as rhe Central Mosque courtyard, and a newer section, which dates from the beginning of the 20th century. The placeta de la Catedral was laid out in the 19th century. The aristocratic looking Palace of the Largacha-Salazar family is situated across from the main facade of the square. From the Paseo de la Catedral, one can savour an enchanting vista across the valley.
