Jerez de la Frontera is the largest town in the province of Cádiz and also the home to one of the most famous designations of origin in the world, "Jerez - Xérès - Sherry".

Here you will find the headquarters of the Jerez Wine Regulatory Council that also controls another two significant well-known designations like "Manzanilla - Sanlucar de Barrameda" and "Vinagre de Jerez".

The relationship of Jerez with wine dates back over 3,000 years. There are documents from the 1st century BC that show that it was the Phoenicians who brought the first vines here, coinciding with the foundation of Gades, now called Cádiz. In this guided tour of wine-cellars in Jerez you will discover one of city's main temples to wine, González Byass. Also known by many people as "Tío Pepe", this wine-cellar was founded in 1835 and is located right in the centre of Jerez, next to the Cathedral and the Alcázar so it is one of the most important points of reference for visitors.

During the tour which lasts an hour and a half you will be accompanied by an official local guide who will explain all about the different facilities in this beautiful, historical area where the wine-cellar is located. The gardens and halls today host numerous events taking place in Jerez such as congresses, weddings and first-communion celebrations.
