In 2006, the construction of a road brought to light a cemetery from the Medieval Al Andalus era which and in which they found some 346 tombs dating back to between 1000 and 1050, which was the time of the greatest splendour in Lucena for the Jewish culture, the Pearl of Sepharad.

Considered to be one of the most important Jewish burial grounds in Spain and thanks to research and recovery work it has been possible to preserve 116 tombs in optimum condition. Furthermore, they discovered the only Jewish tombstone to appear in a funeral structure in Andalusia, the second to be found in this district.
