This festivity, declared of National Tourist Interest in Andalusia, is celebrated in honour of María Santísima de Araceli, the patron saint of Lucena and of the Andalusian countryside.
The traditional inaugural speech marks the start of these much-loved traditional festivities in Lucena, followed by a varied programme of entertainment and recreation: concerts, dancing, fun and fireworks to enliven the festivities.
The highlights of the festivities are the massive floral offering to the Virgin by the village women, dressed in a typical costume of Lucena, and the procession of the Virgen de Araceli accompanied by the whole town.
During this period Lucena also hosts a fair which offers a wide range of attractions and stalls located in the city's fairground.
