Marinaleda
Small village belonging to the Campiña and located in the eastern part of the province, amongst a landscape of hills and fields use to cultivate olive trees and herbaceous plants. The principal monument is the Church of la Esperanza.
History
There are different theories regarding the origin of its name. Some authors believe that it comes from the Latin name Maiorinus, others think it comes from Marina, and a third group relates it the Muslim Benimerines.Remains discovered in artificial caves suggest that the first known human settlements date back to prehistoric times.
Some remains from the Roman domination have also been found and it seems that that a Roman road passed by the site of the village.
