The Mariposario de Níjar in the province of Almería has created a place for nature lovers amidst hundreds of flowers, plants, trees and ... butterflies.

In this charming garden in Níjar, you will find yourself surrounded by hundreds of exotic and brightly coloured butterflies. While there, you will be able to observe and enjoy one of nature most wonderful spectacles: the birth and flight of butterflies. As they stroll along the paths in the Butterfly Farm, nature lovers can immerse themselves in the beauty of hundreds of flowers and plants, fountains and, of course, butterflies.

Other information

Mariposario de Níjar organises guided tours in Spanish, French and English for groups and individual visitors. These guided tours take approximately every half hour. During your visit, you will witness the mating, the caterpillars and the birth of the butterflies. The qualified staff will explain their eating habits, their life cycle and their metamorphosis. After the guided tour visitors are welcome to remain as long as they wish, enjoying the garden and its inhabitants. Visitors may feel free to take photos. A complementary drink is offered to visitors at the end of their visit. Mariposario de Níjar opens every day, however the opening and closing hours vary somewhat according to season due to the changes in sunrise and sunset. (Updated in our Facebook). These changes are made to optimize butterfly activity during your visit. It is the butterflies after all, who decide when they will perform… Ample parking for cars and busses is available by the entrance to the Butterfly Farm.

28th of April to 14th of June: 10.30 am to 2.30 pm and 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm 15th of June to 31 August: 10.30 am to 2.30 pm and 4 pm to 6.30 pm 1st to 30th of September: 10.30 am to 2.30 pm and 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm 1st of October to 1st of November: 11 am to 4 pm The last scheduled tour is actually 40 minutes before the closing times. From 2 November to 18 November 2018 and bank holidays: open to the public on weekends from 11:00am to 3:00pm. From Monday to Friday only for groups and previously booked tours.
