It is said that it was in Oria, Almería, where the first parish church in the area was built, the Shrine of San Gregorio Ostiense, after Almanzora was freed by Don Juan de Austria.

The Moorish leader, El Quagaci, was taken to the bishopric of Cuenca and submitted to the Inquisition, his property was confiscated and he was ordered to wear the "sambenito" (a penitential garment) for life and spend six years as a galley slave.
