Osuna University
Osuna University was founded by Juan Téllez Girón the 4th, Count of Ureña, and was presented with a Bull of Foundation from Pope Paul III on the 10th of October 1548
In honour of the Bull, a hall was built with a chapel, dedicated to the Concepción de Nuestra Señora (Conception of Our Lady) and a general study in which students could get grades with the same validity as those form “Bologna”, Salamanca, Alcalá de Henares, with the same honours and prerogatives. Fifteen major subjects where taught at the University and eight minor subjects at the College, based around Medicine, Laws, Canons and Theology. It shut down as a University in 1824.
In 1995 the Osuna Council started building work to adapt the old Osuna University into a University School, and it has been back up and operating as a University since the 1996/97 academic year.
